Tom Barratt is credited with creating Whistler's park and Valley Trail system. This greenway and park system has become the standard other communities and resorts aspire to. 

As the original Parks Planner for Whistler Tom Barratt provided the vision and capability to plan and implement the park and trail system helping Whistler to become the successful resort emulated by others.

"It took great foresight," said Whistler Municipal Councillor Gordon McKeever of Barratt's vision and accomplishment. "The Valley Trail is immensely valuable to the community; it's good for public safety, and great for public health."
